  • The humble beginnings of the Kerrville/Kerr County area can be traced back to the 1840s, and the shingle making enterprise of Joshua Brown, an early settler on the Guadalupe River. Thirty years later this area benefited from area ranchers moving their herds down Ichoupitoulos Street (now known as Water Street) en route to new northern markets. One of the most well known men of this era was rancher and Texas Ranger Charles Schreiner. He became Kerrville's first merchant and soon built a huge business and ranching empire. His name continues to be widely known in the area today.
  • Captain Joseph A. Tivy, a Civil War hero and fellow rancher, was Kerrville's first mayor. He donated land and furnishings for Tivy High School, the first public school in the area. This building, located at 1009 Barnett, now serves as the administration building for the Kerrville Independent School District.
  • Kerr County was chartered in 1856 and the City of Kerrville was founded in 1889. Early day improvements included the establishment of a Volunteer Fire Department in 1891, the Kerrville Water Works Company and first water distribution system in 1894.

  • Texas Heritage Living History Day
    A country music festival is held each year in September. A one-day event which began in 1987 which hopes to help preserve and perpetuate the traditions of Texas music and teach of the varied cultures and heritage of Texas.

    In the restored Victorian mansion of pioneer Charles Schreiner, this museum is filled with antiques, and shows off the affluent life of the early days here.

    Since 1972, this festival is held each year beginning on the Thursday before Memorial Day and running for 18 days. It is held at the Quiet Valley Ranch
